Interview with business man sitting at office deskYou have developed an outstanding resume that has captured the attention and interest of a number of companies. Now the decision is which company represents the best fit for you as it pertains to career and culture? You are now ready for your face to face interview

Why Arriving Late Is An Interview Mistake To Avoid

Sometimes there are valid excuses for arriving late. More often than not you will be excluded from the lists of candidates selected for the next round of interviews. Traffic, car problems, getting lost in the office park complex or a mix-up on the interview time are not good excuses. You should look at maps or make a practice drive to make sure you know exactly where the office is located is one way to avoid this mistake. Having a plan B for morning traffic jams or accidents is a great best practice as well. If your Interview is at 8:00 and you know this is the peak time for morning traffic your plan should be to leave home early enough to avoid traffic problems. It is always better to be early than to be late.

Do Your Homework

Companies love to know that you are excited about the interview and want to be a part of their team. In order to get this point across during the interview you should research the company, competitors and the industry. This should be done ahead of time so you are comfortable in sharing this information during the interview in a natural and conversive manner. Nothing causes you to lose momentum more during the interview than not knowing much about the company or industry. This indicates your lack of seriousness about the job and most likely your desire to work there. Be prepared to impress during the interview.

Add Your Value Proposition Statement

Your resume is partially about your experience and qualifications. It is also a document to share what values you will bring to the company if they hire you. During the interview you should be prepared to share what you have to offer on the first day of work. Many professionals will prepare a 90 day plan to share during the face to face interview. This should be presented in a pursuasive manner based on job documentation and past performance. If you failed to mention this in your resume now is the perfect time to get these facts across to the interviewer.

Thank You

You should always say thank you after an interview in either handwritten note form or via an email. This shows interest and professionalism. Finally, ask the interviewer for the job at the conclusion of the interview. And let them know what contributions you are prepared to bring to their company when hired.
